Sept. 14, 2015 WACO, Texas - Former Baylor tennis player John Peers reached his highest ATP ranking of his career Monday with the release of the latest ATP rankings.
Peers moved up to No. 7 in the ATP Tour doubles rankings, a new career high. He is the highest ranked Australian and jumps up seven spots from his rank two weeks ago. Partnering with Jamie Murray, Peers reached his second-straight Grand Slam finals at the U.S. Open on Sunday.
The pair defeated the duo of Sam Querrey (No. 82) and Steve Johnson (No. 168) in the semi-final round. Peers and Murray then fell to Pierre-Hugues Herbert (No. 21) and Nicolas Mahut (No. 23) of France 6-4, 6-4. Peers and Murray also finished as runners up at Wimbledon on July 12. Peers finishes the 2015 Grand Slam Tour with a 37-20 doubles record.
In one season at Baylor, Peers racked up a 38-6 mark in doubles play, while being named All-Big 12 in singles and doubles. He partnered with Roberto Maytin to be an ITA All-American in doubles. The duo finished the season ranked No. 5 in the country and advanced to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals.
