Men's Tennis Unveils 2015-16 Schedule

WACO, Texas -- After a very successful 2014-15 season and an NCAA semifinal appearance, Baylor men's tennis head coach Matt Knoll announced his team's 2015-16 schedule Thursday.

Overall, BU's schedule currently features 11 fall individual tournaments, one spring individual event and 18 dual-matches. The Bears will host 11 opponents in the dual-match season, while traveling for the seven remaining matches.

On Sept. 18, BU will begin its fall season at the inaugural Oracle/ITA Master's Collegiate Championship in Malibu, Calif. where senior Julian Lenz and junior Max Tchoutakian will play in the singles draw. Lenz and Tchoutakian will also pair up in the doubles tournament.

Three Bears, redshirt freshman Will Little, junior Vince Schneider and true freshman Jimmy Bendeck, will then compete in the Napa Valley Tennis Classic from Sept. 25-27 in Napa, Calif. Lenz and Tchoutakian will travel to Tiburon, Calif. to participate in the Tiburon Pro Challenger Sept. 26-Oct. 3.

While senior Felipe Rios has already been selected to compete in the next event, the ITA All-American Championships, Oct. 5-12 in Tulsa, Okla., the fall individual season continues for the rest of the Bears with the Mansfield Pro Futures that will run Oct. 3-11.

The Bears will then take a break from facing outside competition and host its only fall event in Waco with the annual Alumni Match scheduled for Oct. 18.

Baylor will head to Houston for the ITA Texas Regional Championships Oct. 24-27. The Bears will wrap up the month of October with Lenz and Tchoutakian competing at the Monterrey Pro Challenger, Oct. 24-31, in Monterrey, Mexico.

To open November, one athlete is schedule to take part in the USTA Bluewater Bay Championships in Niceville, Fla. Athletes, who have qualified in the regional competition, will then travel to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate in New York, Nov. 12-15, while other Bears will compete in the Kramer Club Invitational, Nov. 13-15, in Los Angeles, Calif., to complete the fall season.

The 2016 portion of Baylor's schedule concludes the individual season on Jan. 15 with the Sherwood Collegiate Cup in Los Angeles, Calif., which runs til Jan. 18.

Baylor opens its dual-match season with the ITA National Indoor Kick-Off Weekend, which will serve as the qualifying rounds of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. BU faces UC Irvine at the Hurd Tennis Center on Jan. 23 and the winner of that match will play the winner of Oregon and Old Dominion on Jan. 24.

If they win both matches of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, the Bears will again take part in ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va., Feb. 12-15.

BU continues its five-match home stand by welcoming Incarnate Word on Jan. 30, Texas A&M on Feb. 3, and Mississippi on Feb. 6.

Following the indoor championships, Baylor will play two home matches against Memphis on Feb. 27 and Abilene Christian on Feb. 28, both slated for a 2 p.m. start.

Baylor travels to La Jolla, Calif. to participate in the La Jolla Doubles Classic, March 4-6, and stays in the area to face NCAA perennial power UCLA on March 10.

The Bears travel back to Waco to face Seminole College on March 13, before heading to Indian Wells, Calif., for three matches. BU will face Illinois March 18 and then take part in the BNP Paribas Collegiate Challenge with contests against California and USC on March 19 and 20, respectively.

Baylor finishes non-conference action against Laredo CC on March 30 in Waco at 6 p.m.

Big 12 Conference play begins for Baylor with Texas Tech coming to Waco on April 2. The Bears will then host Texas for their last regular home match of the season on April 5 at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Baylor concludes conference play with three straight road matches, starting with a match against NCAA runner-up Oklahoma on April 15 in Norman, Okla., Oklahoma State on April 17 in Stillwater, Okla., and the Bears travel to Fort Worth to face TCU on April 20.

The 2015 Big 12 Championships will be held in Stillwater, Okla. on April 29-May 1, while the first and second rounds of the NCAA Championship will be held at select campus sites, May 13-15. The final 16 teams in the NCAA Championship will travel to Tulsa, Okla., on May 19-24, to determine the NCAA champion. Following the team portion, the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be May 25-30 in Tulsa as well.
