Lenz, Doubles Duo Make Sherwood Semifinals

THE RUNDOWN
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -
Baylor men's tennis senior Julian Lenz and the doubles duo of Jimmy Bendeck and Will Little will play in the Sherwood Collegiate Cup semifinals at the Sherwood Country Club Sunday.

In the 32-man singles draw, the No. 1 seeded Lenz beat No. 115 Max de Vroome of USC, 7-6(1), 6-3 in the quarterfinals. He is now 3-0 in the last two days in California.

In doubles action, Bendeck and Little opened up with a 6-4 victory over UCLA's Maxime Cressy and Martin Redlicki. The BU duo then took out USC's Laurens Verboven and Nick Crystal, 6-2, in the quarterfinals.

Baylor's five other singles participants picked up three victories on the second day of action. First, Little defeated Pepperdine's Jack Van Slyke, 6-2, 6-3, in the consolation quarterfinals. Meanwhile, the 59th-ranked Max Tchoutakian beat Verboven, 7-5, 6-4, and Felipe Rios downed Austin Rapp of UCLA, 6-3, 7-6(2) in singles back draw matches.

In other doubles matches, Rios and Tchoutakian started their run at the event with a 6-4 triumph over USC's Rob Bellamy and Logan Smith, before falling to No. 42 Maciek Romanowicz and Nolan Paige of Stanford, 6-2.

WHAT'S NEXT
Play continues at the Sherwood Collegiate Cup on Sunday as main draw doubles semifinal action leads things off at 12:30 p.m. CT. Meanwhile, singles semifinal action begins at 1:30 p.m. CT.

Bendeck and Little will take on Stanford's Paige and Romanowicz in the semifinals, while Lenz will play UCLA's Karue Sell.
