WACO, Texas - The fourth-ranked Baylor men's tennis team looks to bounce back from its first loss the season with a match against No. 20 Mississippi Saturday at 6 p.m. CT at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The Bears (5-1) dropped a 4-2 decision at home Wednesday against third-ranked Texas A&M. In singles play, BU got wins from seniors Julian Lenz and Felipe Rios on courts one and three, respectively.
Baylor and Ole Miss are tied 3-3 in the all-time series, but the Bears have recorded wins in three of the last four matches, including the team's first-ever win at Oxford, Miss., last season. BU took a 4-1 win on March 10, 2015 over the Rebels.
Ole Miss (2-1) will play its first match since the ITA Kickoff Weekend when the team saw a pair of Big 12 teams in Texas Tech and Texas. After recording a 6-1 win over No. 63 Troy to open the season, the Rebels dropped a 4-3 decision to the Red Raiders on Jan. 23. Ole Miss recorded its most recent victory on Jan. 24, taking down the Longhorns 4-3 in Austin.
So far this season, Baylor is 4-2 in the doubles point and a perfect 4-0 when winning the opening point. BU is 1-1 when dropping the doubles point, most recently against No. 3 Texas A&M.
Statistically, BU is led by Lenz, Rios and redshirt freshman Will Little, who are all currently undefeated in singles play. Lenz and Little lead the doubles lineups with a 4-1 record at the No. 1 position. Baylor has one ranked singles player in No. 59 junior Max Tchoutakian, who is 4-1 on the season.
