THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Baylor men's tennis players went 6-2 in singles action on the first day of the Sherwood Collegiate Cup Friday at the Sherwood Country Club.
The schedule of play was changed due to delays caused by inclement weather. Instead of two singles matches and one doubles round being played, each player had one singles match and then two rounds of doubles action were held.
In the opening round of the 32-man singles draw, 44th-ranked Max Tchoutakian took out Stanford's David Wilczynski, 6-1, 6-3. Meanwhile, freshman Bjoern Petersen recorded a 6-4, 7-6(0) upset of UCLA's 87-ranked Maxime Cressy.
Constantin Frantzen (7-5, 6-3), Juan Benitez (6-3, 6-3) and Johannes Schretter (6-0, 6-0) all won in straight sets over Jake DeVine (USC), Robbie Bellamy (USC) and Nikita Demir (Stanford), respectively.

Two of Baylor's doubles pairings advanced to the tournaments semifinal round. First, Benitez and Tchoutakian took care of USC's David Laser and Laurens Verboven, 6-2, in the opening round. Next, Benitez and Tchoutakian power past Brandon Sutter and David Wilczynski of Stanford, 6-3, to be one of only four doubles team left undefeated.
One of those other remaining three undefeated duos is Frantzen and Petersen, who got an opening round bye, before slipping past USC's Jack Jaede and Thibault Forget, 7-6(4).
Baylor's final doubles team of Bendeck and Stayer suffered a 6-3 setback to USC's Robbie Bellamy and Jake DeVine in the opening round.
