Senior earns top rider honors after dominant opening weekend
WACO, Texas – Baylor equestrian senior Abbi Demel was named the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA)/Shorty's Hattery Horsemanship Rider of the Month for September, announced Wednesday by the association.
Demel was perfect on the month in horsemanship, helping the BU squad to a 3-0 mark with wins over Delaware State, UT Martin and No. 8 Fresno State in last week's Willis Invitational.
She earned two MOP honors with a 75 against Delaware State on Friday and a meet-high 76 against eighth-ranked Fresno State. She also earned a 74-70 win over UT Martin Saturday.
The Hoisington, Kan., native was a part of a dominant Western squad who went a combined 19-4 in three meets last weekend.
Demel and the Bears take a break from competition this weekend before traveling to No. 7 Oklahoma State on Oct. 13.
