Bears look for first-ever back-to-back Sweet 16 berth
WACO, Texas – No. 11 Baylor soccer (18-5-0, 8-1-0 Big 12) will look to keep its undefeated home record intact, facing No. 13 Vanderbilt (16-3-1, 8-1-1 SEC) in the second round of the NCAA Soccer Championship on Friday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
BU is hosting three other teams in Waco for both the second and third rounds of the tournament, with the winner of Baylor-Vanderbilt going on to face the winner of a Friday 3 p.m. match between Texas Tech and the No. 3 seeded-Virginia Cavaliers. The third round will take place at Betty Lou on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m.
Baylor enters the NCAA postseason with a No. 2 national seed, the highest-ever bid earned by a BU squad after winning the 2018 Big 12 regular season title and finishing as the runner-up in the 2018 Big 12 Soccer Championship.
The Bears advanced to the second round after earning a 2-0 home victory over Abilene Christian on Saturday, Nov. 10.
Vanderbilt was the 2018 SEC regular season champion, but bowed out of the SEC Tournament after a 1-0 loss to Florida in the opening round. The Commodores topped Murray State, 4-0, in the opening round of NCAA tournament play.
