Lady Bears duo named to national player of the year list
WACO, Texas – Baylor senior Kalani Brown and junior Lauren Cox each earned a spot Tuesday on the WBCA's Wade Trophy Watch List. Brown, a member of the list for the second-straight season, is already on the WBCA's Lisa Leslie Award Watch List. Cox is on the WBCA's Katrina McClain Watch List, and both players are on the John Wooden Award Watch List for the 2018-19 season.
Brown has played in three games thus far in 2018-19 averaging 16.7 points and 5.7 rebounds on a .767 shooting percentage to start the year. She is coming off a junior season in which she averaged a double-double at 20.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest. She has been selected as an all-American eight times in her career and is a four-time preseason all-America selection for 2018-19.
Cox has averaged 10.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per contest in four games while shooting .600 from the field. She is a two-time all-American after averaging 15.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per contest as a sophomore last season, and she was named to two preseason all-America teams for 2018-19.
The Wade Trophy will honor the national player of the year for the 42nd time this season and is named after the late Delta State University head coach Lily Margaret Wade, who won three consecutive national championships.
The watch list consists of 35 players and is selected by the WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Selection Committee. The committee will review the list in January to determine if additional players will be added based on their play during the first half of the 2018-19 season.
West Virginia's Tynice Martin was the only other Big 12 player added to the watch list.
