Bears look for fifth consecutive win in Big 12 play
WACO, Texas –Baylor volleyball (16-7, 8-4 Big 12) looks for its fifth consecutive Big 12 win against Kansas State (13-10, 3-9 Big 12) Saturday night at 6 p.m. CT inside Ahearn Field House.
The matchup will air on ESPN3 with Brian Smoller and Liz Wegner-Busch on the call.
Saturday's match is the first of three matches the Bears will play in a six-day span. BU travels to Texas Tech Monday night and then hosts No. 5 Texas next Friday in Waco.
Baylor also looks for its sixth road win of the season and second consecutive victory in Manhattan.
BEARS HIT THE ROAD FOR ROAD CLASH AT K-STATE
• Following a four-set home victory over Iowa State on Wednesday, Baylor volleyball looks to continue its hot run in the second half of Big 12 play against K-State Saturday night.
• Baylor looks to remain perfect in the second half of conference play with its fifth-straight Big 12 victory.
• The Bears are currently 4-2 in conference road matches in 2018, recently beating Oklahoma on Nov. 3.
• BU looks to split the season series after a home loss to the Wildcats on Oct. 20.
• A win would give BU a victory over the Wildcats for the sixth-straight year.
• Last season, the Bears swept the series for the first time since 2010.
• In the last 10 series meetings, Baylor and Kansas State have won five matches against each other.
• In the conference standings, Baylor is third while the Wildcats are eighth.
LAST TIME VS. KANSAS STATE (Oct. 20, 2018)
• No. 24 Baylor volleyball had a late lead but ultimately fell to Kansas State in three sets Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Ferrell Center, 25-23, 27-25, 28-26.
• The Bears were swept at home for the first time since the 2017 NCAA Tournament Second Round where Colorado won in straight sets.
• Baylor was led by sophomore Yossiana Pressley who produced her 10th 20-kill match of the season, racking up 22 putaways on a .275 efficiency. Joining her in double-digit kills was redshirt junior Shelly Fanning who had 10.
• Sophomore Hannah Lockin recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 38 assists and 10 digs in the loss. Braya Hunt was the other Bear in double digits with 10 digs.
LAST TIME VS. THE WILDCATS IN MANHATTAN (Oct. 14, 2017)
• Baylor volleyball had career nights from Aniah Philo and Yossiana Pressley as the Bears rolled to a four-set win over Kansas State Saturday, Oct. 14 at Ahearn Field House in Manhattan, Kan.
• Philo totaled a career-high 23 digs in the back row and added 12 kills on a .407 attack effort for her third double-double of the season. Pressley led all players with 20 kills on a .381 hitting percentage, surpassing her previous career high of 18.
• Camryn Freiberg had the second-best attack percentage in a four-set match in program history, hitting .714 for 10 kills on 14 attempts (no errors).
• Katie Staiger posted a double-double with 14 kills and 13 digs for her 12th of the season and 32nd of her career.
FANNING, WULF EARN BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
• Shelly Fanning was tabbed the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week while Tara Wulf earned Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon.
• Fanning earns her sixth career weekly honor from the conference and a team-leading fourth offensive award this season while Wulf earns her first career honor.
• The Bears earn two weekly recognitions for the first time in 2018.
• In a four-set road win over Oklahoma last Saturday, Fanning dominated with a league-leading 6.00 kills per set and 7.12 points per set.
• She posted a career-high 24 kills on 46 attempts against the Sooners, recording the most kills in a four-set Big 12 match this season. She currently leads the league in hitting percentage (.410).
• Wulf earns her first weekly award after leading the conference in digs per set (7.00). With an impressive 28-dig performance on Saturday, she matched the league-high mark in a conference four-set match and came within one dig of matching her career high (29).
• Wulf helped BU lead the Big 12 in digs per set with 22.75 last week.
