Boland announces first addition to program Saturday
WACO, Texas – Baylor Director of Tennis and Head Men's Tennis Coach Brian Boland announced the addition of sophomore Kyrylo Tsygura to the 2018-19 roster Saturday afternoon.
Kyrylo Tsygura (pronounced Kuh-RIL Suh-GUR-uh) played his freshman season of collegiate tennis at Virginia where he compiled a 14-13 singles record and 4-6 doubles mark for the Cavaliers. He has three years of eligibility remaining heading into the season.
"Kyrylo gained extensive and valuable experience while competing at the University of Virginia this past season," Boland said. "He learned so much from his coaches and teammates, and we're looking forward to building on that here in Waco. We're excited he's a Baylor Bear."
Playing as high as No. 1 in doubles and No. 4 in singles, Tsygura's biggest win came against eventual national champion Wake Forest's Julian Zlobinsky at the No. 5 spot during ACC play.
Coming out of high school, Tsygura was a top-10 recruit on TennisRecruiting.net and the top-ranked player in Maryland. The Potomac, Md. native achieved a career high No. 96 ITF world junior singles ranking in 2017.
Tsygura will enter a BU program that has won 13 Big 12 Conference regular season titles and eight tournament crowns over the 22-year history of the league. The Bears begin their first season under four-time national championship coach Brian Boland, who was announced as the program's ninth head coach on May 24.
