PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – Baylor women's golf is tied for eighth place after shooting 8-over-par 296 in Tuesday's second round at the White Sands Invitational. The Bears have a two-round total of 11-over 587 and are seven shots backs of the top-three entering Wednesday's final round.
No. 27 Baylor (+11) is tied with No. 21 Mississippi State (+11) and leads No. 48 Tennessee (+12), SMU (+17), Tulane (+18), No. 25 Ohio State (+19) and New Mexico (+24). The Bears trail No. 3 Texas (-22), No. 17 Arkansas (-4), No. 41 Oklahoma (+4), No. 34 Georgia (+4), No. 24 Houston (+6), North Texas (+7) and No. 31 Clemson (+8).
The Bears were led in Tuesday's second round by Gurleen Kaur, who posted even-par 72 to move into a tie for ninth place individually at 1-under 143. Fiona Liddell carded 2-over 74 to tie for 16th place at 1-over 145, while Elodie Chapelet, Erica Chiang and Jordan Shackelford posted matching scores of 3-over 75 to complete the Baylor scorecard.
Shackelford enters the final round tied for 34th place at 4-over 148, while Chapelet is tied for 59th place at 7-over 151 and Chiang is tied for 66th place at 8-over 152. Anika Veintemilla, who is competing as an individual, shot 4-over 76 to move into a tie for 44th place at 5-over 149.
HIGHLIGHTS
1-under – Baylor bounced back from a slow start to shoot 1-under as a team on the front-9 in Tuesday's second round. The Bears started on the fifth, sixth and seventh holes in the shotgun start, and the team shot 9-over on the back-9 before returning to the front-9 to complete their round. Kaur made one birdie and eight pars to card 1-over on the front-9, while Liddell, Chiang and Chapelet all posted even-par 36 going out.
