Bears book two spots in singles round of 16, doubles quarterfinals in Newport Beach

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Baylor men's tennis went 4-1 and advanced two players to the singles round of 16 and a pair of doubles tandems to the quarterfinals on day two of the ITA National Fall Championships Thursday at The Tennis Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
In singles action, No. 49 Adrian Boitan collected a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over Oscar Gabriel Ortiz from Seward County Community College. Then, No. 44 Sven Lah took a 6-4, 6-7(1), 6-3 win against No. 12 seed and 19th-ranked Matej Vocel for the Bears' second singles upset of the tournament.
14th-ranked and No. 7 seed Matias Soto ended his singles run with a 6-7(2), 7-5, 6-1 loss to No. 24 Giovanni Oradini of Mississippi State in the second round.
In doubles play, Lah and senior Constantin Frantzen earned a spot in the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over LSU's Daniel Moreno and Joey Thomas.
Soto and senior Ryan Dickerson closed out the night with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 victory over USC's Riley Smith and Stefan Dostanic in the round of 16.

In singles play, Boitan will face No. 1 seed and fourth-ranked Yuya Ito of Texas while Lah plays No. 45 Valentin Vacherot of Texas A&M for the third time this fall season.
In doubles play, Lah and Frantzen advance to face sixth-seeded Benjamin Hannestad and Franco Aubone of Miami while Dickerson and Soto will play against North Carolina's Simon Soendergaard and Mac Kiger on Friday.
