Landrum’s NCAA record earns a nod from the conference office
WACO, Texas – Baylor's Juicy Landrum rode her NCAA-record setting performance Wednesday, to a co-Player of the Week award from the Big 12, the conference office announced Monday. In addition, the Baylor women's basketball team ranked No. 6 in Monday's Associated Press Top 25l, ranking the Lady Bears in the top 10 for the 100th consecutive week.
Landrum hit 14 3-pointers on 23 attempts vs. Arkansas State Wednesday to set NCAA, Big 12 and Baylor single-game records.
Baylor's record was nine, the Big 12's was 11 and the NCAA's was 13 heading into the contest before Landrum was able to pull past all three hurdles to hold all records exclusively.
Landrum's 42 points were a career high, which nearly doubled her previous best of 23 points at TCU, Jan. 12. It was just the 16th 40-point performance in Baylor history, and her 42 points ranked as the ninth-highest single-game points total in school history.
Landrum's performance was featured on Wednesday's 11 p.m. ET edition of ESPN's SportsCenter as anchor Scott Van Pelt's "Best Thing I Saw Today" segment.
Landrum passed Lamar's Moe Kinard's 13 3-pointer performance vs. Denver, Nov. 23, 2018 for the NCAA mark. She passed TCU's Amber Ramirez for the Big 12 record; Ramirez had 11 vs. Southeastern Louisiana State, Feb. 10, 2017. Odyssey Sims and Mandy Hayworth each had nine to share the previous Baylor record for most threes before Landrum shattered the school mark.
The senior from Waco also jumped from 11th to tie for seventh on Baylor's career list for 3-pointers in the game, entering with 125 and leaving with 139. She tied Emily Niemann (139, 2003-05) for seventh-best in school history.
Landrum also won co-Player of the Week last season after her 23-point performance at TCU marking her second Big 12 Player of the Year award. Te'a Cooper was named Player of the Week earlier this season, giving Baylor two for the year. Landrum shared the honor with Texas' Charli Collier who averaged 15.0 points and 17.5 rebounds over two games.
Dec. 9, 2014, Baylor moved up from No. 11 to No. 9 in the Associated Press Top 25, and since that day, the Lady Bears have ranked in the top 10 in 100 consecutive weeks. Since that day, Baylor holds a 175-13 (.931) during the streak.
Baylor takes the floor again Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. vs. Morehead State in the final game of 2019, a year that brought the Lady Bears their third NCAA championship in April.
