BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Â
Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew
Opening Statement…
"I thought you had two teams that really competed, really played hard. We didn't offensively execute as well as we would've liked, but we did a great job in defending and getting ourselves a chance to win on a night when you shoot 38 percent. Again, Oklahoma's got one of the top 25 defenses in the country for a reason, and they do a tremendous job and we knew it was going to be a hard fought game, and we're just blessed to get the win."
Â
On the impact of Freddie (Gillespie)'s late offensive boards…
"Those were huge. Getting in foul trouble early really hurt us in that first half, but he did a great job down the stretch for us."
Â
On Devonte (Bandoo)'s impact on the game…
"Early, middle, late Devonte was on fire. He played great. Credit our guys for finding him, and Devonte spends a lot of time working on his game. So happy for his success."
Â
Baylor Junior Freddie Gillespie
On the late rebound.…
"Yeah, it was a good situation. I was a upset because I was in foul trouble in the beginning so I was like 'alright, I'm out here in the end.' I wanted to close out, and I really couldn't be there for my teammates because of the game situation. I mean, he put it up and I was determined to get it, and I got it and I came down and there was kind of like a second where I was like 'hey, what do I do now' and I kind of looked left, and looked right and there was no one there, I was trying to kick it out and I heard Mario and Mark scream 'Freddie go up' and I was like, okay. And I went up and scored it. So, it's good to have on the court leaders in those two."
Â
Baylor Junior Devonte Bandoo
On his first half…
"That something I've done before. I'm getting used to this roadmap, just coming off the bench and providing a spark. When I see something, I want to see how the team is playing, where I can get a little fast break and shoot the ball, where they won't relocate me. On the bench I try to just focus on that."
OKLAHOMA POSTGAME QUOTES
Â
Oklahoma Head Coach Lon Kruger
Opening Statement…
"Tough game. I liked our guys' fight defensively. I think we still struggled to be consistent on the offensive end. Baylor has done things very well, and I thought our guys battled and hung in there. We didn't make much out of our possessions late. We didn't take advantage of the flagrant foul. Baylor did what they do down the stretch, and we just have to keep working to get better and find ways to improve and play basketball."
Â
On the difference of tonight's game compared to the last matchup...
"The guys handled the ball well. We put the ball in some good spots to score in the zone. We were able to make some shots and forced them to play as much man defense as they played zone. I thought our guys handled it much better this time around. We just have to keep making shots against the zone. Our fight and competitiveness were much better this time around."
Â
On the comeback in the last five minutes…
"We had plenty of opportunities down the stretch, and we were just unable to convert. Down two points and draw the flagrant foul and we didn't get anything out of it. We slipped and fell on a couple of drives and were unable to get anything out of those possessions. Again, we just have to take better care of the ball and limit the turnovers. Overall, we did well throughout the game, but down the stretch we gave it up three or four times and it cost us."
Â
On Baylor making eight three-pointers in the first half…
"Baylor shot the ball very well. We focused on taking that away in the second half, and they were able to go down inside in the second half. They have a lot of weapons and aren't afraid to shoot the ball. Coach Drew does a great job down here and his guys can play."
