
EQ’s Thiel and Scheckel Named Big 12 Riders of the Month

Two Bears earn their first career weekly honors Monday afternoon
IRVING, Texas – Baylor equestrian had two Bears earn honors as junior Grace Thiel (equitation on the flat) and sophomore Sydney Scheckel (reining) were named Big 12 Riders of the Month, announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Both Bears earn their first career monthly honors and become the second Baylor duo this season to earn awards in the same week.
Thiel, an Easton, Kan. native, had a strong ride against Oklahoma State defeating her opponent 86-73. She had the highest score of all competitors against No. 7 Georgia, defeating her opponent 85-80 and earning MOP honors.
Thiel is currently undefeated on the season with an 8-0 record with 2 MOP's.
A Richmond, Kan. native, Scheckel defeated her opponent from No. 7 Oklahoma State, 73.5-71, and tied for the highest score of the meet to earn her MOP honors.
While competing against Georgia, she was awarded a point by 70.5 defeating her opponent of with a score of 67.
Scheckel is currently sitting at 6-0 with 2 MOP honors this season.
Since 2012, BU riders have now been honored 28 times. Baylor's last conference monthly award winners were Rachel Davis (equitation on the flat) and Abbi Demel (horsemanship) last November.
Fifth-ranked Baylor will close out the regular season by hosting No. 2 Texas A&M Saturday at Willis Family Equestrian Center. The meet is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. with Baylor senior day recognition at the conclusion of the contest.
