MT's Brooksby Books Spot in U.S. Open Main Draw

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. – Baylor men's tennis incoming freshman Jenson Brooksby is headed to the U.S. Open men's singles main draw after three straight wins in the qualifying draw this week in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Brooksby secured his second-straight bid to the main draw after he took down World No. 152 Pedro Martinez, 6-2, 6-7(4), 6-3, in the final round Friday afternoon.

The Sacramento, Calif. native advanced to Friday's match with a second-round upset over World No. 122 Yūichi Sugita in straight sets, 7-6(4), 7-6(3) on Wednesday. He opened the qualifying draw with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Kaichi Uchida on Monday.

Brooksby, the 2018 USTA National 18's junior champion in Kalamazoo, Mich., also earned a wildcard to the U.S. Open main draw and advanced to the singles semifinals at the U.S. Open Junior Tennis Championships last fall.

Brooksby will play in the opening round on Monday. Opponent and time are to be determined.
