
Bears Open Play at Oracle ITA Masters, Cajun Tennis Classic

Bears continue fall schedule in Malibu and Lafayette this weekend
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's tennis will send four Bears to compete at the Oracle ITA Masters and Cajun Tennis Classic tournament this weekend.
The Oracle ITA Masters tournament will run Sept. 26-29 in Malibu, Calif., while the Cajun Tennis Classic will take place on Sept. 27-29 in Lafayette, La.
Juniors Matias Soto and Sven Lah earned bids to Malibu and will open singles play Thursday afternoon. 14th-ranked and fifth-ranked Soto faces Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's William Mottet while No. 44 Lah will take on Cleveland State's Nico Mostardi. Both matches are expected to start at 1:30 p.m. CT.
Soto or Lah could play up to five matches should they advance to the championship final on Sunday.
There will also be a consolation singles bracket and a mixed doubles draw in Malibu. Soto will work alongside Anna Turati of Texas as the tournament's No. 5 seed while Lah will compete with Virginia's Natasha Subhash as the No. 7 seed for the event. Both mixed doubles matches will begin at 10 a.m. CT Thursday morning.
In 2018, Lah finished singles action with a 1-1 record and advanced to the mixed doubles final with Washington State's Michaela Bayerlova.
The men's and women's singles champions earn automatic entry into the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which will be held November 6-10 in Newport Beach, Calif.
At the Cajun Tennis Classic, Christopher Frantzen will open singles action against Arizona State's Christian Lerby while Constantin Frantzen will face Mississippi's Lukas Engelhardt. Both round of 16 matches are slated for an 8:30 a.m. CT start on Friday. The quarterfinals would follow at 2 p.m.
The Frantzen brothers will also team up in doubles and will face Arizona State's Makey Rakotomalala and Christian Lerby in the quarterfinals.
