STORY LINES
• The Bears remain finish off an eight-game homestand to start the 2020 season when they host UT Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 3 p.m. CT at Baylor Ballpark.
• The Bears are looking to snap a one-game losing streak and to remain undefeated in midweek contests after defeating UAPB 10-0 last Tuesday.
• The Bears are 36-12 all-time in midweek contests under fifth-year head coach Steve Rodriguez.
• The Bears are coming off a 1-2 weekend against visiting Oral Roberts. The Bears lost game one 7-3, bounced back to win game two 7-4, but fell in game three, 4-2.
• FR CF Jared McKenzie has been outstanding for the Bears over the first two weeks of the season, leading the team with a .517 average with a team-high 15 hits, including two doubles and four RBIs over seven games. He has reached base in 17-of-31 plate appearances on the year with just two strike outs.
• Baylor has finished its home schedule with a .500 record or better in all 20 seasons at Baylor Ballpark (since 1999) and is 459-205 all-time at the park after starting off the 2020 season 4-3 at home.
• The Bears return all members of its pitching staff from 2019 with the exception of All-American closer Kyle Hill. That includes Friday and Saturday starters Jimmy Winston and Paul Dickens. The Bears also add six talented newcomers to the pitching staff (five freshmen, one junior college transfer), highlighted by RHP Will Rigney, drafted in the 38th round by the San Francisco Giants in 2019 and LHP Evan Godwin.
