Bears looking to bounce back from first loss of the season
WACO, Texas – The No. 19-ranked Baylor women's tennis team heads to Houston Sunday to face Rice at 11 a.m. at the Owls' George R. Brown Tennis Center.
Baylor (7-1) is coming off its first loss of the season when the team fell to Northwestern Sunday, 4-3, and will be looking to right the ship vs. Rice (6-5). Baylor leads the all-time series with the Owls, 16-13 and has a 14-match winning streak against them. The Bears took a 4-3 win in last year's matchup between the two schools in Waco, Jan. 21.
Rice is 4-1 at home this season and 0-3 vs. the ITA Top 50 with losses to No. 8 NC State (Jan. 25), No. 18 Arizona State (Feb. 16) and LSU on Sunday. Anna Botwell has the most wins for the Owls this season on the singles court with an 8-1 record to start the season with a 6-0 mark on the No. 4 singles court. That will set up an interesting matchup with the Bears who have combined for a 6-1 start on the No. 4 court.
Baylor's Alicia Herrero Linana and Kristina Sorokolet are tied for the team lead with six wins apiece on the singles court this spring.
