WACO, Texas – Baylor interim head coach
Michael Woodson announced the addition of graduate transfer
Charlie Broom on Friday.
After spending parts of four seasons at Dartmouth, Broom joins the Bears with a 75-42 career singles record and a 63-27 career mark in doubles. Due to the shortened 2020 season, Broom retains one year of eligibility and will join the team this fall.
"We are thrilled to have
Charlie Broom join the Baylor tennis family this year," Woodson said. "Charlie has a passion and commitment to the sport that is going to raise the bar for everyone involved with our program. He possesses a remarkable attention to detail for his craft that we are confident will help him and his teammates reach their full potential."
Broom, a three-time All-Ivy League First Team selection, hails from Hertfordshire, England. He was off to a strong start in the 2020 campaign, picking up a singles title in the ITA Northeast Regional and a semifinal appearance in doubles before the COVID-19 pandemic halted the season. He also advanced to the second round of the ITA All-America tournament in both competitions. In 2020, Broom was ranked as high as No. 52 in the nation in singles and No. 28 in doubles.
"Charlie has his sights set on a professional career beyond Baylor, and we are thrilled he sees the commitment our program and athletic department are putting into its student-athletes. We cannot wait to be a part of his development as he strives for greatness," Woodson said.
Broom will join a BU program that has won 13 Big 12 Conference regular season titles and nine tournament crowns over the 24-year history of the league. The Bears will return all 12 players from the 2020 roster that went 13-3 in the shortened season.
