WACO, Texas – The Baylor women's basketball team begins the 2021-22 season ranked No. 7 in the nation by the
Associated Press, according to its poll released on Tuesday.
The preseason nod marks the 337
th-straight week that Baylor has been ranked in the AP Top 25, which is second only to UConn's streak of 527 weeks. The last time the Bears weren't ranked in the preseason poll came ahead of the 2003-04 season, marking the 18
th-straight year to begin the season ranked. Coincidentally, the 2003-04 Bears were the team to start the streak of 337 weeks on the 11
th week of that season.
South Carolina comes in as the top seed, edging Connecticut by nine points. After the Huskies, defending national champion Stanford, Maryland and NC State round out the top five. Louisville comes in sixth.
Baylor is one of four Big 12 schools to be ranked in the preseason poll, along with No. 12 Iowa State, No. 19 West Virginia and No. 25 Texas. Oklahoma State and Oklahoma each received votes.
