Bears’ Sven Lah will play in singles and pair with Finn Bass in doubles
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's tennis players Sven Lah and Finn Bass are ready to compete in the ITA National Fall Championships, which will be held November 4-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
Lah, a senior from Ptuj, Slovenia, is playing in singles, which will begin Thursday, Nov. 4, with the round of 32. Lah is slated to face Max Westphal of Columbia at 9am. The Bear was an automatic qualifier into the Championships by finishing as the Runner-Up at the ITA Texas Regionals. He defeated two seeded opponents in his five days of play in College Station, including eight-ranked Luc Fomba of TCU, the reigning Big 12 Player of the Year. Lah is 5-1 in fall singles ITA play headed into the tournament.
Bass and Lah were invited as wild-card doubles participants to the Championships and will begin play on Friday, Nov. 5, in the main draw round of 32. The pair are slated against Filip Planinsek and Juan Martin of Alabama, playing at 5:30pm. The Bears are one of just two wild-card selections, the other pair being from UCF. The Bears were the No. 2 seed in the ITA Texas Regionals and made it into the quarterfinals. They are currently ranked No. 27 in the ITA doubles rankings. This fall, they have gone 4-2 together, having made the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American tournament as well. There, Lah and Bass defeated two ranked teams that went on to win their respective regionals doubles titles.
The ITA National Fall Championships is the grand finale of the fall collegiate season and will feature the top 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. This is the fifth edition of the tournament as it replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in 2017.
The 2020 installment of the tournament was held in Lake Nona, Fla., and had no doubles play. Trey Hilderbrand of UCF won the singles title. Both Lah and teammate Adrian Boitan reached the round of 16 at the tournament in 2019, played in Newport Beach, Calif. Matias Soto and Ryan Dickerson made the quarterfinals in doubles play as well.
Draws, results and more can be found on the ITA website. Live streaming will be provided by Track Tennis and live scoring coming from Tennis Ticker. Both links will be posted on BaylorBears.com as they become available.
Recaps and final scores will be available on BaylorBears.com after the conclusion of play each day.
