Bears looking to start 4-0 in Big 12 play for first time since 2013
WACO, Texas – No. 2 Baylor men's tennis celebrates its 2021 Senior Day on Thursday in Waco with a 6 p.m. match against No. 7 Texas at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Charlie Broom, Ryan Dickerson, Constantin Frantzen, Spencer Furman and Nick Stachowiak will each be honored as part of the festivities.
BU (26-3, 3-0) is looking for its first 4-0 start to conference play since 2013, when the Bears ran the table on the way to a Big 12 regular-season title. Baylor currently holds a 10-match win streak, its longest since 2014, when the team won 11 in a row.
The Longhorns (17-4, 2-1) come to Waco for the first time this season, though the two sides have already met twice. Baylor has taken both prior 2021 matches, including a 4-1 decision in Austin and 4-0 sweep in a neutral-site bout in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship quarterfinals.
Texas still holds a 44-24 advantage in the all-time series, though BU has won each of the last three showdowns.
Currently, Baylor boasts a 129-22 combined record in singles play this spring, as well as a 59-19 mark in doubles dual matches. The Bears are 23-6 in the doubles point this year and own a 22-1 record in matches when winning the opening tally.
Regardless of the result Thursday evening, Baylor will play for at least a share of the Big 12 regular-season title when it squares off against No. 6 TCU on Sunday, April 18, in Fort Worth.
