Bears set to follow up last season’s NCEA semifinals appearance
WACO, Texas – No. 8 Baylor equestrian (0-0) opens its 2021-22 season on the road at No. 10 UT Martin (0-0) Friday at 10 a.m. at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion in Martin, Tenn.
The Bears are set to follow up last season's trip to the NCEA semifinals. Despite a 3-8 overall record, BU snapped No. 1 Auburn's 42-meet win streak in the 2021 quarterfinals to reach the final four for the first time under fifth-year head coach Casie Maxwell.
Baylor returns 13 of its 18 point-winners from last year, including second-team Reining All-Americans Madaline Callaway and Daisy Kaufman, and 2021 All-Big 12 Fences Team selection Savannah Hemby. Maxwell leads a roster of 62 student-athletes, comprised of 44 returnees and 18 freshmen.
Under Maxwell, Baylor is 2-2 in season openers and will begin its campaign on the road for the third-consecutive year. The Bears have outscored their opponents 46-27 across their last four season openers.
This marks the first meeting between the Bears and Skyhawks since 2018 and just the eighth contest between the two programs all-time. BU leads the series 7-0, with all seven previous matchups taking place in Waco.
Live scoring will be provided by UT Martin and is available here.
