
No. 9 VB Falls in Five to No. 7 Pitt

The Bears defeated the Panthers in sets two and three.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 9 Baylor volleyball fell to No. 7 Pittsburgh in five sets. The Bears took sets two and three while the Panthers won the first, fourth and fifth.
Baylor (1-2) fell to Pitt (5-0). The starters for the Bears were Callie Williams, Preslie Anderson, Kara McGhee, Elise McGhee, Yossiana Pressley, Shanel Bramschreiber, and Avery Skinner.
The Bears fought hard in all five sets, especially having played a match the night before. Pitt brought the pressure against BU, but the Bears fought right back. It was a battle through and through.
The Breakdown
SET ONE
The Bears started off well pulling back and forth with the Panthers up to a tie at 9-9. Elise McGhee and Kara McGhee had back-to-back blocks and were hustling early. Pitt went on a 6-0 scoring run to make it 14-9 in the Panthers' favor, and McGuyre called a timeout to pull the team together. The Bears scored the next point, but Pitt kept pushing. At 20-14, another timeout was called. Baylor scored seven more points, but the Panthers scored five to finish the set.
SET TWO
Baylor had back-and-forth points with the Panthers early on, but the energy was up. Pitt pulled to 8-6, but the Bears answered with an Avery Skinner kill and they starting scoring points of their own. Yossiana Pressley went off, scoring two points in a row with a kill then a block. At 16-12 in the Bears' favor, the Panthers called timeout with the Pressley/Skinner duo having produced more points. Bri Coleman had two-straight service aces, and Hannah Sedwick followed up with one of her own on the next possession. The Bears then ran away with it, with Pressley making big plays. Baylor finished the set at 25-17 to win it.
SET THREE
The Bears had Lauren Harrison and Pressley kick off the points, then Preslie Anderson showed her prowess with a successful block. It then became back-and-forth on the scoreboard. The Bears pushed to 20-18 with aces from Lauren Briseño and Avery Skinner, and kills from Harrison, Skinner Pressley and Sedwick. Pitt called timeout to collect themselves, but came out of it with two points to tie them at 20. Two-straight kills from the Bears put them at set point thanks to Pressley and Skinner. An Anderson kill solidified it.
SET FOUR
Baylor fell with easy mistakes early, but after a timeout, the Bears came back to an Anderson point. Pitt pulled ahead, scoring four-straight and causing Baylor to call time. BU was down 17-11 and the points kept climbing for the Panthers up to 22-15. Anderson recorded a block and then a kill on the next play to propel the morale. Shanel Bramschreiber followed it up with an ace, which prompted a timeout from Pitt. The Bears brought it back up to 24-19, but fell to the Panthers to force their second-straight five-set match.
SET FIVE
Back to the back-and-forth of points, but the Bears pulled ahead with a kill from Hannah Sedwick to make it 6-5. Another point came from a Sedwick block and pressured Pitt into a timeout. Another two Pitt attack errors made Pitt call a second timeout after a 5-0 run from the Bears. Pitt responded with a 4-0 scoring run themselves to tie it at 9-9. Attack errors came from both sides to make it 11-11, but a kill from Pitt swayed it in their direction. Another point came to the Panthers from a Baylor attack error. The final point was a Pittsburgh kill to end the set, 15-11. The Panthers ended the match on a 4-0 scoring run.

- The Bears have only ever played Pittsburgh in neutral sites. The last time Baylor played the Panthers was in 2009.
- Baylor had Pressley as the leader in kills, total attacks, and points with 20, 54 and 22. Hannah Sedwick led in digs with 14 and in assists with 42. The leading blocker was Preslie Anderson with seven.
