WACO, Texas – Baylor head coach
Nicki Collen announced the signing of transfer Erika Porter from Illinois on Thursday morning.
"We are excited to welcome Erika to the Baylor family. She rounds out an exciting spring of recruiting for us. Erika will give us experience in the post and will provide some much-needed size, athleticism, and energy. Erika checks off the 4 R's for us: Run, Roll, Rim Protect and Rebound. Her strong faith and commitment in the classroom make her just as special off the court as on it."
The 6-foot-3 forward started in 12 of 23 games for the Illini where she averaged 4.2 points and 2.3 boards in 13 minutes per contest. She had the second-highest field-goal percentage on the team at 52.2 percent. She spent a majority of her time at center.
Porter played her best ball last season against Wisconsin. She put up 15 against the Badgers on March 2 after pulling down a career-high seven boards against Wisconsin on Jan. 9. Porter racked up a career-high four boards in each of those meetings with Wisconsin.
Porter helped lead her Notre Dame (N.J.) High School team to four-straight Colonial Valley Conference titles and a 76-30 record. Porter won back-to-back CVC Player of the Year honors as she finished her career with 1,405 points and 792 boards for the Irish.
