Five-time junior title winner joins Bears in Fall 2022
WACO, Texas –Baylor men's tennis signed Luc Koenig to the 2022 signing class, head coach Michael Woodson announced on Tuesday. Koenig comes to America from Durban, South Africa.
"We are elated to have Luc joining us here at Baylor this season," said Woodson. "Having been mentored by his father, a very successful professional that is still involved in the game today, Luc is incredibly polished in his knowledge and skill set. It is rare to see such a well-balanced all-court player coming out of the juniors these days, but Luc can do it all."
He has a Universal Tennis Rating in singles of 13.19 and career-high ATP ranks of 1591 in singles and 1134 in doubles. In juniors play, Koenig made his way to a high ranking of 149.
Koenig tallied five junior singles titles on the ITF circuit, most recently at the J3 Johannesburg in September. In doubles play, he and partner Devin Badenhorst tabbed two titles at the J4 Pretoria and J5 Durban.
"We feel his enthusiasm for the game and incredible upside will translate to immediate success on and off the court for him at Baylor," said Woodson. "Luc will certainly help us continue to compete for championships nationally right away!"
