BU is one of three schools with multiple players on the list
LOS ANGELES – Baylor guards Keyonte George and Adam Flagler were named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top-25 watch list, announced Wednesday by the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
BU joined Kansas and North Carolina as the only schools to boast multiple representatives on the 25-player list. The Big 12 had the most players, with six, from four different schools.
George was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the week on Monday after averaging 18.5 points in his two games last week. The Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year ranks ninth in the conference in scoring (15.6 ppg), 12th in field goal percentage (.378) and seventh in three-point field goal percentage (.337) while pulling down the fifth-most rebounds per game (4.3) among Big 12 guards.
Shooting .500 from long distance this season, Flagler is on pace to set BU's single-season three-point percentage record (.487). His 50% clip from three is good enough for second-best in the conference. He also ranks third in assists (5.0), seventh in points per game (16.5) and has scored in double figures in 13-straight games.
This is the third-straight year Baylor is represented on the Midseason watch list as James Akinjo made it last year, while Jared Butler and Davion Mitchell made the list in 2021 before Butler was named a finalist and a John Wooden All-American that season.
Created in 1976, the John R. Wooden Award Program hosts the most prestigious honors in college basketball, recognizing The Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player for men and women, The Wooden Award All-America Teams for men and women and the annual selection of the Wooden Award Legend of Coaching recipient.
The Wooden Award Men's and Women's Players of the Year will be announced on April 7, 2023. For up-to-date information on the Wooden Award, please go to www.woodenaward.com and follow the Wooden Award on Facebook at www.facebook.com/woodenaward and @WoodenAward on Twitter and Instagram.
Flagler and George will return to the floor on Wednesday night in the Big 12 home opener against the TCU Horned Frogs in Baylor's "Go Gold" game at 8 p.m. They will then host Kansas State in the return of former BU assistant coach Jerome Tang on Saturday, a 5:00 p.m. tip from the Ferrell Center.
