The senior is BU’s first golfer of the month since 2020
WACO, Texas – Baylor's Johnny Keefer was tabbed as the Big 12's Golfer of the Month for October, as announced by the conference office Thursday.
Keefer is the first Bear to take home the conference's golfer of the month award since Ryan Grider won it in October of 2020. It is the first time in Keefer's career that he has been selected as a golfer of the month.
The two-time reigning Big 12 Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year has been on fire this fall with three top-10 finishes in three stroke-play events, including his last time out at the Kapolei Invitational, where he tied for eighth with three rounds in the 60s. He carded a 12-under 204, which ranks as one of the top-20 tournament scores in program history. In the process, he also overtook Jimmy Walker's career stroke-average mark, moving .04 strokes ahead of the major champion and former Bear with a semester to play.
Keefer opened the month with an impressive performance, going 4-1 at the Big 12 Match Play, helping the Bears to a runner-up finish. Squaring off with many of the opposing teams' best players, Keefer led the way for his team with four wins, with only two of his matches going all 18 holes. The San Antonio, Texas, native improved his career match play mark to 16-5-4.
Well on his way to one of the most decorated careers in Baylor history, Keefer is one top-10 and two top-5s away from moving into the top-5 in program history in both categories.
Keefer and the Bears will return to action Feb. 19-21 at the Prestige in Palm Springs, Calif. For more information on Baylor Men's Golf, follow @BaylorMGolf on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
