Bears add match with Nevada for Friday afternoon
LOS ANGELES – Baylor men's tennis heads west to California for a Saturday doubleheader, facing Nevada at 2:30 p.m. CT on a neutral court before playing USC at 7 p.m.
The Bears (8-9) enter the weekend at No. 43 in the ITA rankings, down 11 spots from last week.
BU will play the Wolf Pack at the Jack Kramer Club in south LA on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. CT in the first ever meetings between the two teams.
Nevada is 3-5 after their matches in Sacramento State's Golden Gate Invitational for Friday and Saturday were cancelled.
The nightcap features Friday's rescheduled match against USC at the David X. Marks Tennis Stadium, where the Trojans stand No. 8 in the ITA rankings with an 8-3 record.
Saturday's match will decide the series leader, as Baylor and USC are currently tied at eight wins each all-time. The Bears took the previous two decisions, winning 4-3 in 2017 and 4-2 in 2019.
Finn Bass leads the Bears in the ITA computerized rankings at No. 49, with Tadeas Paroulek just behind in 98th. In doubles, Bass and Juan Pablo Grassi Mazzuchi are back at No. 10, while Paroulek and Zsombor Velcz are 24th.
Velcz is the lone Bear in double figure wins for singles play, sitting at 10-3. In doubles, Paroulek and Velcz lead the team at 12-1, with a perfect 5-0 record at No. 1.
