
MT Leads Big 12 to Victory at Big 12/SEC Challenge

Bears go 13-5 on the weekend
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's tennis welcomed five Big 12 and SEC teams to the Hurd Tennis Center over the weekend to host the Big 12/SEC Challenge. With the help of the Bears, the Big 12 won out over the SEC 48-42 through three days of singles and doubles competition.
Baylor had a successful three days, going 13-5 overall. Zsombor Velcz helped lead the Big 12 with a 5-1 record, earning Big 12 MVP. Velcz went undefeated in doubles, paired with Oskar Brostrom Poulsen, and only fell in singles on the final day against his Texas opponent. On SEC's side, Texas' Timo Legout was named the SEC MVP.
On Friday, the Bears swept the competition, going undefeated against Auburn in doubles and Texas A&M in singles. Saturday's competition consisted of the Bears facing off against the Gators in doubles and the Tide in singles, with the Bears winning out 4-2. On the final day of competition, Baylor went 3-3 against Alabama in doubles and Texas in singles.
Quintan Van Wijk found success over the weekend, posting a 5-1 record and going undefeated in singles. Van Wijk proved himself to be a fighter with all three of his singles matches going into three sets yet he still took the victory. Brostrom Poulsen also went 5-1 with an undefeated record in doubles with Velcz and a 2-1 record in singles. Louis Bowden wrapped competition for the Bears with a 3-3 record overall.
Bears now prepare for the Cowboy Classic being hosted at Oklahoma State from Oct. 11-13.
