WACO, Texas – Baylor junior guard Jayden Nunn was named Big 12 Conference Player and Newcomer of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Nunn is the first player in program history to sweep both Big 12 weekly awards, coming off a career week averaging 23.5 points per game while leading the Bears to a pair of wins over No. 25 Oklahoma and West Virginia.
The VCU transfer got off to a blistering start against the Sooners, going 6-of-8 and 4-of-5 from three in the first half. He continued his strong play in the second half, netting a pair of three-pointers en route to a Big 12 career-high 27 points, a season-high eight field goals on just 12 attempts (.667%) and three steals.
Nunn took his show on the road, scoring 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting in a 13-point win for the Bears over West Virginia. He added four assists, helping the Bears get six players in double figures for the first time since Jan. 25, 2023, against No. 8 Texas. The junior transfer from VCU recorded back-to-back 20-point games for the first time in his career.
The junior's big week continued his upward trend in Big 12 play, averaging 17.0 points in his last five contests, while he averaged 9.3 points per game in his previous 20.
Nunn is BU's fourth weekly award winner this year, joining Ja'Kobe Walter, who won Player of the Week on Nov. 13, 2023, RayJ Dennis, who collected conference Newcomer of the Week on Nov. 27, 2023, and Yves Missi, who was the conference Newcomer of the Week last week.
Nunn and the Bears will return to the court Tuesday night as they wrap up a two-game road swing against BYU at 8 p.m., with Roxy Bernstein and Chris Spatola on the call for ESPN. John Morris and Pat Nunley will have the radio call on the Baylor Sports Media Network via ESPN Central Texas and Centexsportsfan.com on 1660 AM and 92.3 FM.
