LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 13 Baylor Softball dropped game two of the three-game series against Kansas, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Arrocha Ballpark.
THE RUNDOWN
The Bears had chances as they tried to turn the tide late in the game but ultimately fell against the Jayhawks after loading the bases in three innings.
BU got two runners on in the top of the first, after Shaylon Govan and Abi Flores drew back-to-back two-out walks, but wasn't able to bring a run across.
Aliyah Binford and the Baylor defense sat Kansas down in order through the first two innings, with Binford picking up three strikeouts.
After loading the bases in the bottom of the third, a fielder's choice, strikeout and groundout ended the KU threat as Baylor worked another scoreless frame.
In the top of the third, Flores led off the inning with a walk before Sydney Collazos hit an infield single to put two on for Shannon Vivoda, who reached on a fielding error to load the bases. Kaci West then lined a hard-hit ball straight to the first baseman, who made the diving play to turn the double play and end the Bears' threat.
KU was then able to plate two in the bottom of the fourth after drawing two walks that put two on before a single through the right side sent both runners home.
In the top of the fifth, Presleigh Pilon led off with a single to left-center before Emily Hott doubled to put runners on second and third with one out. Govan was then intentionally walked to load the bases for the second-straight inning. The Bears, catching another unlucky break, lined a ball directly at the third baseman, who made the catch and touched third to turn the Jayhawks' second-straight inning-ending double play.
After sitting Kansas down in order in the bottom half of the fifth, Collazos doubled in the top of the sixth, but that would be all for the Bears in the inning.
Down to its last chance, BU loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh with two outs after Hott singled, Govan walked and Flores singled. The Bears weren't able to bring home any runs in the inning, though, as a fly-out ended the threat and secured the Kansas victory.
