SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – No. 1 Baylor acrobatics & tumbling defeated Augustana on Saturday at the Elmen Center, 281.600 to 269.355.
The Bears (7-0) beat the Vikings (4-2) by 12.245 points for the win. The last time BU had a team event score 100 points or more was in 2023, while the last time Baylor had a final score of 280 or more was in 2022.
The Bears increase their winning streak to 34 meets, dating back to March 27, 2021.
THE RUNDOWN
Starting off the meet, Baylor had a Compulsory score of 37.20. A score of 9.45 was garnered in Acro, 9.85 in Pyramid, 9.90 in Toss and an 8.00 in Tumbling. Going into the second event, BU was up 37.20 to Augustana's 36.10 score. Freshman
Gabby Kaminski earned a spot in the Tumbling lineup and got the start against Augie.
Moving into the optional portion of the meet, Baylor had a score of 9.85 in Heat 1 (5-Element), 9.55 in Heat 2 (6-Element) and 9.75 in Heat 3 (7-Element) of Acro to total 29.15 for the event. The Vikings had scores of 9.30, 8.60 and 9.30 respectively, for a total of 27.20. Going into the Pyramid event, BU was up 66.35 to Augustana's 63.30.
In the Pyramid event, the Bears earned a 9.95 in Heat 1, the inversion heat. In heat two, BU earned a 9.40, the synchronized heat. In heat three, the open heat, the Bears scored 9.70. With the event scoring a 29.05, the running total was updated to 95.40 for Baylor. Augie totaled 28.45 for the event and had a score of 91.75 going into halftime, the Bears up by 3.65 points.
In the Toss Event, Baylor had scores of 9.85, 9.50 and 9.55, respectively, to total 28.90 for the event. The Vikings scored a 8.95, 8.95 and 9.60, respectively, to total 27.50. Going into the fifth event, Tumbling, the Bears were up 124.300 to Augustana's 119.25.
In the Tumbling Event, Heat 1 (Duo) with
Emily Bott (FR) and
Kristen McCain (SR) scored a 9.60. In the Trio Heat (Heat 2),
Payton Washington,
Rakel Jeffries and
Aliyah Kaloostian scored an 8.45. The Quad Pass (Heat 3) had Aliyah Thomas,
Charlyze Hemby,
Mariah Polk, and
Emi Nelson score an 8.25, a new pass for the Bears to compete. The Aerial pass from Bott earned a 9.775, Washington in the 6 Element pass (Heat 5) had a 9.975, and
Savanna Cecil in the Open pass (Heat 6) earned a 9.70. The Bears' total came to 55.750 for the event, while the Vikings scored a 52.075. Going into the night's final event, BU was up 180.050 to 171.825 from Augustana.
In the Team event, Baylor earned a score of 101.55 while the Vikings earned a 97.53, bringing the meet score to a total 281.600 to 269.355, BU taking the win.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Baylor extends its win streak to 34 meets in a row, dating back to 2021.
- BU outscored Augustana by 12.245 points.
- The Bears earned 16 scores of 9.0 or higher.
- It was the first time the Bears had a 280 or higher final score since 4/10/22 against Oregon on the road.
- The last time BU had a 100-plus point team event was in 2023 at Hawai'i Pacific on 4/9/23.
- Augustana was the sixth team so far this season that Felecia Mulkey faced a former student-athlete, and just the third with the head coach being a former Bear. The Vikings are coached by two-time All-American Kaelyn Cowan.
