
WT Earns No. 6 Seed, Face No. 11 Seed WVU in First Round on Wednesday

WACO, Texas -- After a strong 2024 season that saw the Baylor women's tennis go 9-3 at the Hurd Tennis Center, the No. 36 Bears have earned the six seed and will face 11th seed West Virginia at 12 p.m. on Wednesday in the first round of the 2024 Big 12 Conference Championships, hosted by Oklahoma State at Greenwood Tennis Center.
The entirety of the championships will be available for streaming on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
Baylor (16-11, 7-6 Big 12) will face off with West Virginia (14-11, 3-9 Big 12) in the first round of the tournament, with the winner advancing to square off with the winner of three-seeded Oklahoma (16-5, 11-2 Big 12) and 14-seeded Houston (2-18, 0-13 Big 12) on Thursday at 3 p.m.
The semifinals will start on Friday at 6 p.m. and the championships are on Saturday at 6 p.m. All matches will be broadcast live ESPN+. Oklahoma State (24-0, 13-0 Big 12) earned the No. 1 seed and Texas (19-4, 12-1 Big 12) sits as the No. 2 seed.
Oklahoma State (No. 1), Texas (No. 7), Oklahoma (No. 18), Texas Tech (No. 25), Baylor (No. 36), BYU (No. 40), TCU (No. 46), UCF (No. 50), Kansas (No. 54) and Kansas State (No. 73) are all ranked in the ITA rankings on April 16.
Baylor posted a 4-0 win over then No. 60-ranked West Virginia on March 3 in Morgantown. Miska Kadleckova, Liubox Kotenko and Zuzanna Kubacha each earned efficient singles wins, while Kadleckova/Danielle Tuhten and Isabella Harvison/Kostenko posted doubles wins. The win was the second in a seven-match win streak for the Bears.
Baylor is looking for its ninth all-time Big 12 tournament title, all under Coach Joey Scrivano, who led the Bears to six consecutive tournament championships from 2006-11.
The Bears have been led in 2024 by senior Miska Kadleckova, who has going 15-4 and 14-4 at the No. 1 spot in singles. Isabella Harvison owns a 12-4 mark in singles, while Zuzanna Kubacha has gone 11-10 in singles. Kadleckova owns a team-leading 15-5 mark in doubles, including a 12-4 record on line two.
West Virginia has gone 70-61 as a team in singles and 31-30 in doubles. Momoka Nagato leads the team with a 13-7 record, including 4-2 on line one and 8-4 on line two. Maja Dodik has gone 12-8, with Tatiana Lipatova going 10-3 and Michaela Kucharova has gone 9-1. Nagoato and Kucharova have each combined to win 11 doubles matches while Borderau has gone 12-5 in doubles in 2024.
