Incoming freshman joins Bears from Peru
WACO, Texas – Baylor men's tennis head coach Michael Woodson announced Wednesday the signing of Luis Jose Nakamine, an incoming freshman from Peru.
"We are thrilled to be adding Luis Jose to our roster for this coming season," Woodson stated. "One of the kindest young men you'll meet, he was dialed in on the culture and history of our program and university from the start, and that resonated with us strongly. His work ethic and discipline along with a strong competitive fire will undoubtedly help us compete for championships this season and beyond."
Nakamine joins the Bears with an ITF juniors career-high ranking of 46. The Trujillo, Peru, native currently ranks No. 1 in Peru's U18 rankings after he captured two singles and eight doubles titles.
Recently, Nakamine made his grand slam debut, competing in the 2024 Australian Open in the junior boys' singles and doubles competition. The incoming freshman holds an overall record in his junior career of 71-41 in doubles and 70-58 in singles.
"When all is said and done, I have no doubt that Luis Jose will leave the uniform better than he found it."
Nakamine will join the Bears in Waco for the 2024 fall season.
