The freshman is the second Bear to claim the award this season
WACO, Texas – Baylor volleyball freshman Ksenia Rakhmanchik was named the Big 12's Rookie of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.
En route to her career-first weekly award, the Minsk, Belarus, native continued her standout debut season with a dominant weekend on the road, averaging 4.50 kills per set and hitting .218 across six sets against No. 8 Arizona State and Arizona.
She tallied 27 total kills and 28 points in two matches in the Grand Canyon State, including a career-high 17 kills against the Wildcats last Friday.
Rakhmanchik also contributed on defense with seven digs and two blocks, providing consistent two-way production for the Bears. Her powerful attack once again made her Baylor's offensive focal point, as she led the team in kills for the second-straight week.
The freshman is Baylor's second Big 12 Rookie of the Week winner this season, joining her teammate, Morgan Madison, who has won it twice this season. This marks the third time in the last four seasons that Baylor has had two different freshmen win rookie of the week.
With 23 more kills, Rakhmanchick will move into fifth place in program history for most kills by a freshman.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday night when they open a three-match homestand against Kansas State at the Ferrell Center. Pete Sousa and Faith Lynch will have the call for ESPN+, with first serve set for 7 p.m.
