WACO, Texas – Manuela Bibinbe authored a monster night at the Ferrell Center with a career-high 21 kills and a season-high six blocks, snapping Baylor's three-match losing streak with a 3-1 win over Kansas State on Wednesday night.
With the win, the Bears improved to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in Big 12 play, extending their dominance in the series with the Wildcats by winning for the 13th time in the last 14 meetings.
Baylor's .257 hitting percentage marked its second-best mark in conference play, improving to 6-0 on the year when hitting .250 or better, while its 12 team blocks were the most since recording 14 against TCU last month.
Down 22-18 late in the first set, BU went on a 5-0 run to take the 23-22 lead and force the Wildcats into calling a timeout. After the Wildcats recorded the first point out of the break, BU rattled off two more points to seal a tight opening set 25-23, improving to 7-0 in opening sets at home and 9-1 overall when winning the first set this season.
"I really thought we stole that one," head coach Ryan McGuyre said. "We weren't in control of that one. It was back and forth with seven ties and five lead changes, and then we got down 22-18, so it was good to get the win, because they are hard to come by. On the Arizona trip, we lost six sets by a total of 14 points, so it was good to get it, because we need three."
Kansas State responded with its strongest set of the night, pulling away midway through the frame to win 25-17 and even the match.
Baylor found itself down midway through the third set again before leveling things at 19 and then again at 20. Using a couple of kills by Bailey Warren, along with an ace and a beautiful dump kill by Harley Kreck, the Bears regained control of the match with a 25-22 win.
In the fourth, Baylor fended off multiple set points to secure a 28-26 victory on the strength of a late 3-0 run spurred on by Warren and fellow freshman Ksenia Rakmanchik to close out the match.
Bibinbe delivered one of her best performances in a Baylor uniform, posting a season-high 21 kills, the most by a Bear in a regular-season match since Elise McGhee had 22 against Houston last November. The outing also moved the senior middle blocker to within nine kills of 500 for her career. Freshman Bailey Warren notched her second-career double-double, tallying 14 kills and a career-best 11 digs, while Morgan Madison led the team in digs for the 14th time this season, recording 20. Madison now sits just six digs shy of tying Hannah Lockin Sedwick's freshman record of 233. Harley Kreck continued her stellar sophomore campaign recording a career-high 44 assists, the most in a four-set match since Jackie Barrett Frazier had 46 against LSU on Sept. 9, 2024.
The Bears will have another quick turnaround as they host Cincinnati in their annual "Dig Pink" match on Friday night at 7 p.m. Lincoln Rose and Faith Lynch will be on the call for ESPN+, while stats are available all season long at Baylorbears.com/stats.
