BU aims for its first win in the state of Arizona since 2005
TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 16 Baylor volleyball continues its trip through the Grand Canyon State with a Friday night matchup against Arizona at the McKale Center in Tucson.
The meeting marks the third all-time between the two programs and the second in Tucson. Arizona claimed the lone meeting in the desert back in 2000, while Baylor earned the first win as Big 12 foes last season, taking a 3-1 victory at the Ferrell Center.
The Bears (9-5, 4-2) are coming off a hard-fought three-set loss to No. 8 Arizona State, where Manuela Bibinbe led the way with 11 kills and 11.5 points, reaching her 200th career block milestone in the process. Freshman Ksenia Rakhmanchik continued her breakout season, tallying 10 kills for her fourth consecutive double-digit effort.
Texas State Transfer, MJ McCurdy chipped in nine kills, her highest total since early September. The match also marked the return of setter Bri Denney, who provided 15 assists in her first appearance in nearly a month, while Harley Kreck led the way in that category with 18, to surpass 500 for her career.
A fast start will be key for the Bears as they enter the match 8-1 this season when they win the first set, but 1-4 when dropping the opening frame. In all nine of its wins this season, Baylor has held their opponents under a .250 hitting percentage, while all five losses have come against teams hitting .254 or higher.
First serve will be at 8 p.m. CT on Friday night with Joe Pequeno and McKenzie Jacobson calling the action for ESPN+. Live stats are available at BaylorBears.com/stats
