Scott’s 53-point first week earns national recognition
INDIANAPOLIS – Baylor women's basketball redshirt sophomore Taliah Scott has been named one of five USBWA Ann Meyers Drysdale Women's National Players of the Week, as announced by the association Tuesday.
In her first week as a Baylor Bear, Scott poured in 53 points, going a combined 16-for-34 from the floor and 7-for-17 from beyond the arc.
In BU's upset win over No. 7 Duke in Paris, Scott's 12-point fourth quarter lifted the Bears to a 5-point victory over the Blue Devils. She followed with 29 points in the home opener against Lindenwood, hitting five 3-pointers with a perfect 6-for-6 slate from the free-throw line.
The honor marks Baylor's first recognition from the USBWA since earning National Team of the Week selections in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, the most recent coming after the Bears' 84-77 upset of No. 4 Utah at the Ferrell Center.
Alongside Scott, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association also selected Liv McGill of Florida, Meghan Andersen of Fairfield, Audi Crooks of Iowa State and Fadima Tall of Princeton. Southern Cal's Jazzy Davidson is Freshman of the Week and UConn was named team of the week.
BU is back on the road to face UNLV in Las Vegas on Friday at 8 p.m. CT. The game will air on CBS Sports Network and the Baylor Sports Media Network.
Baylor women's basketball is presented by Central National Bank, a family-owned, independent bank headquartered in Waco, Texas, that provides uniquely personal service while simultaneously embracing the latest developments in banking technology.
