Bears defeat Cornell duo to advance
ORLANDO, Fla. – Baylor men's tennis' Devin Badenhorst competed in the Singles Round of 32 while the pair of Connor Van Schalkwyk/Zsombor Velcz competed in the Doubles Round of 32 on Wednesday at the UTSA National Campus.
Van Schalkwyk and Velcz advance to the doubles round of 16 with their win over the Cornell duo.
THE RUNDOWN
No. 5 seed Badenhorst started the day off in singles action against Wake Forest's DK Suresh in a rematch from last year's round of 32. Badenhorst and Suresh went back and forth in the first set with Suresh claiming the first set 7-6 (4). In the second set, Badenhorst was down 3-1 but won the next two games to tie up the set 3-3. However, Badenhorst was not able to beat Suresh, losing the match 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Velcz and Van Schalkwyk went up against Cornell's Felipe Pinzon and Petar Teodorov on Court 11. The green and gold duo started quickly, claiming set one 6-1 in 22 minutes. In set two, both pairs went back and forth in the set to force a tiebreaker. _ won the tiebreaker to win the set and match 6-4, 7-6 (7) to move into the Sweet 16.

The second day of doubles competition is on Wednesday, Nov. 20.
The doubles pair of Van Schalkwyk and Veclz face off against Wake Forest's No. 2 DK Suresh and Andrew Delgado at 3 p.m. CT.
