ORLANDO, Fla. – Baylor women's basketball picked up an overtime win against Davidson on Saturday evening in its second game of the WBCA Showcase from State Farm Arena, 74-72, outscoring the Wildcats 11-9 in the extra frame.
Baylor held Davidson to an eight-point third quarter to flip the halftime deficit of 34-31, but the Wildcats found a path back in the game with a 21-point fourth quarter, outscoring the Bears by five in the frame to force the Bears' first OT game of the season.
Sophomore Yuting Deng scored a season-high 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, going perfect behind the arc at 2-of-2 with one block, rebound, steal and assist. The Auburn transfer gave BU the lead with three seconds remaining in overtime, driving to the basket before sinking the layup.
Kiersten Johnson recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Johnson also set a career high six blocks, all coming in regulation, including four in the first half.
Taliah Scott led Baylor with 22 points and added a season-high seven rebounds. Baylor grabbed 31 defensive rebounds while limiting Davidson to 33 percent from the field, going 23-of-70.
While BU led for most of the OT period, Davidson brought it back even with 12 seconds remaining after a trio of free throws. That's all Deng needed to boost the Bears to the win.
Darianna Littlepage-Buggs was back in the scoring column, getting 12 points and five rebounds before fouling out. Florida native Kayla Nelms had six points and four rebounds in front of her home state fans, getting a pair of steals.
