11/26/2025 5:18:00 PM | Women's Basketball
WACO, Texas –Baylor used a dominant first quarter and a 21-point showing from Taliah Scott to seize control early, powering past Louisiana Tech 75-46 on Wednesday afternoon at Foster Pavilion.
Baylor (6-1) opened the night with a tipoff win, as Kiersten Johnson sliced in for the opening layup. After LA Tech briefly tied it at 2-2, the Bears took over with a 9-0 run fueled by five quick points from Scott. Johnson added a steal and fast-break layup to put Baylor ahead 11-2 at the first media timeout.
The Bears' defense overwhelmed the Lady Techsters from the start. Louisiana Tech didn't record its second field goal until the final three minutes of the quarter, while Baylor continued to build separation with Bella Fontleroy's first three-pointer of the game and three early free throws from Yuting Deng, her first of the season. Baylor closed the opening frame shooting 60 percent and leading 24-8, holding Tech to 4-for-19 shooting.
Louisiana Tech (3-3) opened the second quarter with a three, but Scott answered immediately with a triple of her own at the 8:33 mark. The period began with a burst of perimeter scoring with three straight possessions ended in threes, before Baylor's defense tightened again. The Bears forced six turnovers in the quarter and held Tech to five made baskets. Jana Van Gytenbeek added a layup with 4:16 left to extend the lead to 31-16, and Deng connected on a corner three with just over two minutes remaining. Baylor entered halftime up 36-21, maintaining a double-digit advantage for the final 17 minutes of the half.
Scott struck first again in the second half, drilling a three to help Baylor open 3-for-3 from the field with two triples from Scott and a Johnson layup. Darianna Littlepage-Buggs pushed the lead to 46-23 at the 5:45 mark after turning a steal into a smooth jumper. The Bears dominated the period on both ends, outscoring LA Tech 24-11 while holding the Lady Techsters to 4-of-15 shooting.
Junior transfer Kiera Pemberton delivered her most efficient stretch of the season, knocking down her first three as a Bear at the 2:56 mark and scoring seven points in five minutes. Littlepage-Buggs continued her work on the glass, securing her fifth double-digit rebound performance of the year before the end of the third quarter as Baylor rolled into the fourth with a 60-32 lead.
Fontleroy opened the final period with a layup, but Baylor hit a brief cold stretch, enduring a 4:27 scoring drought that included two made threes wiped out due to off-ball fouls. LA Tech couldn't capitalize, going scoreless themselves for more than two minutes as both teams traded empty possessions. The Bears finally broke through at the 2:28 mark, still comfortably ahead 68-41.
Pemberton capped her season-best outing with a breakaway layup to reach nine points on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting night. Deng added Baylor's first three-pointer of the quarter with 1:09 remaining, and Marcayla Johnson reached double figures in the final seconds on a steal-and-score.
Baylor's balanced effort included 11 points from Deng, 11 from M. Johnson, nine from Fontleroy and nine from Pemberton. Littlepage-Buggs finished with 12 rebounds and a pair of steals steals, on a defense that allowed just three three-pointers on 21 attempts.
The Bears shot 45.8 percent from the field, outrebounded Tech 44-36, and piled up 18 fast-break points to the Lady Techsters' one. Baylor led by as many as 31 in the final minute.
BU is back in action on Sunday afternoon, hosting Grambling State at 2 p.m. The game will stream live on ESPN+ and the Baylor Sports Media Network.
