WACO, Texas – No. 23 Baylor Softball finished the Getterman Classic with an 11-3 run rule over Hofstra, before falling against No. 3 Oklahoma, 8-0, in game two on Sunday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
GAME ONE
After falling behind by two runs against Hofstra, Baylor came back in the bottom half of the inning to bring two across and even the score.
After no runs for either team in the second inning, the Pride regained the lead in the top of the third after a leadoff walk and a double.
Baylor answered in the second half of the third inning when
Turiya Coleman led off the inning with a solo homerun to right-center field, her first home run at Baylor. With two outs,
Abi Flores and
Lexie Warncke smacked back-to-back singles to put two on for
Ashlyn Wachtendorf who brought both runner home on a triple to right-center. The last run of the inning came home on a double from
Brooklyn Carter to put the Bears out front, 6-3.
The Bears added to their lead in the fourth when
Shaylon Govan scored on a single from
Amber Toven.
After sitting the Pride down in order in the top of the fifth, BU shut the door on Hofstra, plating four in the bottom of the fifth on a wild pitch, a double from Coleman and triple to put the Bears up 11-3 and end the game.
GAME TWO
Oklahoma was perfect in game two of the bears' doubleheader, as Sam Landry tossed five perfect innings of softball for the Sooners.
Baylor gave up three-runs in the top of the first to go up early on the Bears before the Bears were able to stifle any runs from scoring in the second inning.
A three-run home run put the Sooners up by six runs in the third inning.
Baylor made quick work of the Sooners in the fourth allowing one runner on before a double play erased the threat, but OU would find the two runs they needed in the eighth inning to secure the 8-0 run rule.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Bears recorded a season-high 13 hits against Hofstra
- Turiya Coleman went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run, a double and two RBI
- Ashlyn Wachtendorf was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored
- Karynton Dawson recorded her second triple of the season
- Shaylon Govan was issued three walks against Hofstra she now has 100 career-walks at baylor which puts her sixth in the all-time record books
- Lexie Warncke pitched a complete game, striking out four
- Sadie Ross and Dariana Orme each picked up a strikeout against Oklahoma
- BU is now 6-4 on the season, with three of those losses coming against top ten teams
UP NEXT
The Bears will head to Palm Springs, California and the Mary Nutter Classic to face Nevada, Nebraska, Missouri, Arkansas and UCLA Feb. 20-22.
