Bears pick up first top-25 win of the season
STILLWATER, Okla. – Baylor Softball shut out No. 13 Oklahoma State, 1-0, Friday night at Cowgirl Stadium to open game one of the three-game series with a win.
THE RUNDOWN
Shutting down one of the Nation's top offenses, Left-handed pitcher Lillie Walker tossed her second complete game in as many games, shutting out the Cowgirls.
The Bears Got a baserunner on in all but three innings, starting with Shaylon Govan drawing a walk in the top of the first.
After starting a game with a hit batter, Baylor's defense stepped up forcing a pop up before Abi flores threw out the runner trying to steal second for the second out, before a fly out ended the inning.
In the second, Flores led things off with a single through the left side, before Baylor worked out of a jam in the bottom half of the inning to keep things scoreless.
Turiya Coleman walked in the fourth inning but would be the only baserunner for the Bears until the sixth when Baylor scored the go-ahead run. After a leadoff single from Presleigh Pilon, Amber Toven reached on a fielder's choice and tried to come home to score on a double from Shaylon Govan but was tagged out at home plate. With pinch-runner, Gigi Lindsey standing on second with one out, Coleman roped a single up the middle bringing Lindsey home who scored to make it a 1-0 game.
Working out of a jam in the bottom half of the sixth after a leadoff double and a walk, the Cowgirls lined into a double play to end the threat.
Finishing out the game in the seventh, Walker and the Baylor defense sat Oklahoma State down in order in the bottom half of the inning to secure the 1-0 win.
