MT Recognized with Three ITA Regional Yearly Awards

Badenhorst, Brostrom Poulsen and Miladinovic all honored in Texas Region

TEMPE, Ariz. – Baylor men's tennis trio of Devin Badenhorst, Oskar Brostrom Poulsen and Marko Miladinovic all tabbed 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association DI Men's Texas Region Awards, announced by the association on Tuesday.
 
The Bears filled the Texas Region Award categories with Badenhorst being named the ITA Player to Watch for the second year in a row, Brostrom Poulsen receiving the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award and Miladinovic earning the ITA Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award.
 
For the second consecutive year, sophomore Badenhorst was dubbed as the Player to Watch in the Texas Region. The Pretoria, South Africa, native posted a 22-17 overall record for the 2024-25 season, including a 12-13 dual match record. In the fall, Badenhorst punched his ticket into the NCAA Individual Championships in singles and doubles. In the spring, Badenhorst led the Bears, playing every match on Court One, going 6-9 against nationally ranked players. Paired with Luc Koenig for all of spring season, the two went 17-7 on Court Two. Badenhorst notched his highest singles (25) and doubles (17) rankings of his career in the fall of 2024 and went on to earn All-Big 12 First Team in both singles and doubles.
 
Senior captain Brostrom Poulsen earned the Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award, becoming the third Bear in a row to win after Christopher Frantzen had the honor for the past two seasons. The Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award, which dates back to 1982, is presented to men's and women's student-athletes who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements in ways that embody the legacy of tennis icon and humanitarian Arthur Ashe Jr. The award is given to one student-athlete from each ITA region in each division.
 
Alongside Brostrom Poulsen leading the team through the 2024-25 season was Miladinovic as the two senior captains were doubles partners through the entire season. The two veterans earned a bid in the NCAA Individual Championships in doubles and led BU to Round of 32 in NCAA Championships. They went 13-13 in dual matches on Court One in doubles, facing off against nationally ranked doubles teams in nearly half of their matches. They began their senior seasons on a high as the ITA Summer Nationals Doubles Champion to earn their career-high No. 3 ranking to begin the fall season. The senior duo ended the year with All-Big 12 First Team honors in doubles. 
 
In the classroom, Miladinovic was a pure leader with a perfect 4.0 GPA with Brostrom Poulsen right behind with a 3.61 GPA. Miladinovic was named Baylor's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
 
Miladinovic was named the ITA Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award recipient. The ITA's longest-running award honors a Division I men's student-athlete who displays sportsmanship, character, excellent academic and has had outstanding playing accomplishments. The award was established in 1969 in memory of Rafael Osuna, who was killed in a plane accident at the age of 30. Osuna is one of the all-time great collegiate tennis players, winning three NCAA doubles titles and the 1962 NCAA singles title as part of a USC team that many consider to be the greatest of all time.
 
The Bears finished 23-11 on the year on the year and advanced to the NCAA College Station Regional. It marked the 27th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance for Baylor.
