Dumars back in Texas on Collen’s staff
WACO, Texas – Baylor head coach Nicki Collen announced the addition of Tez Dumars as an assistant coach to the women's basketball staff on Tuesday morning.
"I'm excited to announce the addition of Tez to our staff," said Collen. "I wanted to bring in an assistant coach with strong experience in player development, and Tez is that and more. He's coming off a season in Manhattan with Jerome Tang, where he worked as a grad assistant focused on player development. Coach Tang called Tez an 'unbelievable human' and 'elite in his player development skill work.' Tez played both college and pro ball, and that background will help him teach and connect with our players on the floor every day. He's also plugged into the club scene, which will give us even more recruiting reach, especially in Texas."
Dumars comes to Waco after assistant coaching stops at Louisiana Tech, North Texas and West Texas A&M, but spent the 2024-25 season at Kansas State as a graduate assistant manager under long-time Baylor men's associate head coach Jermone Tang, mentoring two All-Big 12 selections.
At Louisiana Tech, the Lady Techsters produced five All-Conference USA selections, with Ann Larr Roberson landing first-team honors after her final season in Ruston before advancing to the semifinals of the Conference USA tournament. Dumar's first CUSA stop at North Texas featured work with another conference first-teamer, Quincy Noble.
Returning to West Texas A&M for the 2018-19 slate, Dumars assisted his alma mater to an Elite Eight appearance in the NCAA DII Tournament after a 34-4 record that held both the regular-season and tournament Lone Star Conference titles.
Following the season on staff with the Buffs in Canyon, Dumars founded Amarillo's West Texas Premier Basketball Club and was also the assistant director and head coach of the 16U FAM Elite team in Houston, winning the Adidas 3SSB National Championship in its first season on the circuit.
Dumars played overseas between 2015 and 2018 with the Cyprus Division A-League's Anagennises Germasogeia and ForexTime Apollon. He ended his collegiate career as the No. 4 scorer in West Texas A&M program history with 1,230 points, averaging 10.98 points a game.
A product of Garland Lakeview Centennial High School, Dumars and the Patriots made back-to-back appearances in the UIL 5A State Basketball finals in his junior and senior seasons.
"Tez has a real passion for Baylor and for this opportunity, and I can't wait to see him grow and thrive in this role," Collen said. "He'll be helping with player development, recruiting and managing our Dream Team. Baylor Family, you're going to love this Texas native whose values line up perfectly with ours."
