The BU freshman wins the award for the second time this season
WACO, Texas – Baylor volleyball freshman Morgan Madison was named the Big 12's Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, announced Tuesday by the league office.
The Magnolia, Texas, native was a difference-maker in the back row, leading Baylor's defense with 37 digs across two matches for an average of 4.11 per set this week.
She posted 15 digs in the road win at Texas Tech before exploding for 22 in the five-set win over No. 9 TCU, tied for the most by a Horned Frog opponent this season.
Making an early case for Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Madison has been at her best when the lights are the brightest, notching a team-high 66 digs (3.67 d/s) in four matches against ranked opponents.
Overall, she is averaging 3.59 digs per set, which puts her tops among Big 12 freshmen this season, and has her on pace to shatter the Baylor freshman record of 2.21 set by Emily Van Slate in 2020.
Madison is the fifth player in program history to win multiple Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors, and the first since Kyndal Stowers won it twice in 2023.
For her efforts last week, Madison was also named to Michella Chester's NCAA Volleyball Starting Rotation of the Week.
Seeking the first 4-0 start to conference play since 2019, the Bears return to action on Wednesday night when they host Houston at the Ferrell Center. Pete Sousa and Faith Lynch will have the call for ESPN+, with first serve set for 7 p.m.
