Carr and Yessoufou combine for 44 points
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Baylor men's basketball dropped an 80-62 Big 12 matchup at Kansas on Friday night at a sold-out Allen Fieldhouse.
Baylor (11-6, 1-4) traded punches early and briefly took the lead late in the first half, but Kansas (13-5, 3-2) closed the gap and dominated in the second half to give BU its fourth conference loss.
Cameron Carr led the Bears with 24 points, knocking down five 3-pointers, while Tounde Yessoufou added 20 points and seven rebounds in a team-high 38 minutes. Kansas finished with a 42-18 advantage in points in the paint and shot 50.8-percent from the field overall.
THE RUNDOWN
Kansas got hot early and fast, going on a 10-0 run and taking a 15-point lead, 19-4 in the first five minutes of the game. Yessoufou was the first Bear to get points on the board in Allen Fieldhouse.
A Yessoufou triple at the 13-minute mark cut the Jayhawks scoring run followed by two consecutive Carr darts from beyond the line began chipping away at the Bears' deficit, 23-15.
The duo of Yessoufou and Carr found their way in double-figures as they have every game this season, combining for 20 of Baylor's 24 points to Kansas' 32 at the under-eight media.
The next five minutes proved to be crucial for the Bears, going a 13-2 run while holding Kansas to a scoring drought. A big time three made by Carr gave Baylor its first lead of the night 37-36, coming back from its 15-point deficit just under three minutes left in the half.
However, just as the Bears took the lead, the Jayhawks responded just as quick, going on a 7-0 run. KU went into the half with a 43-37 lead.
Starting out the second half, the Bears struggled on the offense, making one lone basket compared to Kansas' six-for-six stat line from the field in the first four minutes, 57-40.
Kansas kept the pressure on, taking a 20-point lead at the under-eight timeout, with both Darryn Peterson and Flory Bidunga for KU surpassing 20-points.
At the final timeout, Kansas led 80-57 with Carr leading the Bears on 24 points, and that was enough for the Bears to fall in their fourth conference loss, 80-62.
