Bears remain undefeated at home
WACO, Texas – No. 16 Baylor men's tennis defeated Wisconsin 6-1 Monday afternoon at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
The Bears (3-1) earned the doubles point and won on Courts Three, Five and Two to clinch the victory against The Badgers (1-1). The Green and Gold added more to the scoreboard playing through and winning Courts Six and Four.
THE RUNDOWN
In doubles, BU and UW went back and forth, but ultimately the Bears pulled through with the doubles point. The pair of Blake Anderson and Connor Van Schalkwyk earned a hard-fought 6-4 victory on Court Three, while the South African duo of Luc Koenig and Devin Badenhorst earned a 7-5 win on Court One to earn the 1-0 lead for Baylor.
In singles action, the Bears started hot, claiming all first sets over the Badgers. Transfer Van Schalkwyk continued his hot streak, earning a 6-4, 6-3 win on Court Three. On Court Five, Koenig won his matchup 7-6 (2), 6-3 to add to BU's lead.
Captain Zsombor Velcz posted a strong first-set win; however, he started down 4-2 in the second set. The 108th-ranked player would win five out of the next six games to earn a ranked win over Wisconsin's No. 60 Patrick Meszaros 6-3, 7-5. Velcz's win clinched the win for the Bears.
Playing through the matches, Louis Bowden started down 3-1 in the first set. However, the junior cameback and won the match 7-5, 6-1 on Court Six. On Court Four, Chirita earned the 7-6 (3), 7-5 win. Badenhorst won his first set 7-6 (5) but fell in his second set 6-4. In a 10-point third-set tiebreaker, Badenhorst wasn't able to come on top, falling 6-7 (5), 6-4, 12-10.

BU continues its home slate, hosting a doubleheader against Abilene Christian and SMU on Saturday, Jan. 24. The Bears face the Wildcats at 12:30 p.m., while first serve against the Mustangs is scheduled for 6 p.m.
